There is supervision provided in the cafeteria until 8:35a.m. Children are not permitted to enter the building by any other entrance or go to their classrooms before 8:35.m.
Students arriving by bus or are dropped off after 8:35a.m. go directly to their classrooms. Floor supervision commences in all other areas of the school at this time.
STUDENT DROP OFF/PICK UP
Morning Parents dropping children off are asked to stay in a single file. If at all possible your child should get out on the school side of the car.
Please do not pass cars that are dropping off a child or children. Wait behind the car until the child has safely exited the car and has reached the school door.
If you intend to go into school with your child or take them to the door, please pull out of the line up into a parking space. In this way you will not interfere with the stop, drop and go line up.
Afternoon Parents/Guardians picking children up are asked to do the following:
1. Parents/ guardians of elementary children will park at the back of the school by the soccer field. Children can meet them there.
2. People picking up primary children will park along the chain link fence in the front and to the side of the building. They can then collect the children from the cafeteria. In this way, all children crossing the lot will be accompanied by an adult.
3. Two spaces directly to the right of the door have been reserved for taxi cabs who pick up children for day care centres.
If it is an outdoor day and children are playing outdoors we also ask that you not drive onto the school grounds during lunchtime.
LATENESS Students are expected to be on time for all class sessions. Should a child be unavoidably late the school expects a note. Students who establish a pattern of lateness disrupt the learning of others when they arrive and can, over time, miss a lot of instructional time.
EARLY DISMISSAL Students who have to leave school at a time other than normal dismissal times must have a note written to the teacher. We have a responsibility to you, as parents, to ensure that when your child leaves at a time other than scheduled dismissal, it is with your knowledge and consent. Students leaving during the school day must be signed out at the office.
If school has to close for any reason, we must have a current telephone number where you or your designate can be reached. This becomes critical in the event that the school closed during the morning, for example, due to a power outage. Also, should your child become ill or suffer an injury, we must have a means of communicating with you. Information on arrangements that are in place for your child shall be noted in the appropriate section on the STUDENT INFORMATION SHEET, which will be handed out on the first day of school and shall be returned the following day. Please keep this information updated at all times.
ABSENTEEISM Any student who is absent from school is required to bring a written note explaining the absence to the homeroom teacher; it is not necessary to call the school. The note should be presented to the homeroom teacher on the day the student returns to school. The office may also make contact to the home.
BUSES Student conduct on the bus is always a concern to the school, the parent, and the bus driver. Bus safety will be discussed with every child and we ask that you follow up at home by talking with your child regarding the importance of following the bus rules. If a child has behavioral difficulties while traveling on the bus, every attempt will be made to help that child improve, however, we do have a Bus Warning Letter system in place which could result in a child losing bus transportation privileges.
MEDICATION Our school rarely administers prescription drugs to pupils on school premises. Students who are required to take prescription medicine should adjust their scheduled dosage to be able to take a medicine before or after school hours. Should a situation arise where a student must take medication in school, the parent is to contact the office and fill out the appropriate medical form before the medication is brought to school. The medication is sent to the office, clearly marked with the name of the child and the time and dosage required. All prescription medication will be stored in the office. It may not be kept in the students possession at any time (exception epi-pens, inhalers). The principal, or designate, will ensure that the medication is administered from the office to the student. The medical form must be filled out before the medication can be administered.
DRESS CODE Holy Trinity Elementary does not have a specific dress code; however, students are expected to come to school in clean, tidy and appropriate clothing. No commercials for beer are appropriate; neither are shirts bearing prejudicial or offensive comments. Students are asked to refrain from wearing shirts that expose their stomachs, as well as spaghetti strap shirts. All students should have a pair of indoor sneakers to change into for indoor use. Heelies are not permitted in school or on school grounds.
RECESS/ LUNCH- TIME There will be no recess orders this year. Students are to bring a nutritious recess snack each day.
The School Lunch Association will be providing hot lunches this year. An envelope and menu will be sent home each month. The completed orders and money must be returned by the deadline if a student wants to have a hot lunch for the month. An information package has been sent home. Students, who wish, may bring a nutritious bagged lunch.
All students ordering a hot lunch will eat in the cafeteria.
Students who live close to the school are encouraged to go home for lunch, both for the break it provides them from school for a brief time as well as reducing some of the large numbers of children who are in the cafeteria or classrooms at these times. Please notify the classroom teacher if your child is going home for lunch.
If your child goes home for lunch he/she will not be permitted in the building until the 12:55p.m. bell.
Supervision is provided for students who stay for lunch. Students are expected to follow the school rules during lunch-time. Should they demonstrate inappropriate behavior in the cafeteria or the classroom, they will receive a warning. If the behaviors are repeated they may lose their privileges and will be required to go home at lunchtime.
NUTRITIOUS LUNCHES We encourage all parents to make sure that the lunches children bring from home are well balanced and nutritious. It is important that primary and elementary children establish good eating habits.
Junk food such as soft drinks, French fries, bags of chips, candy etc. are not permitted. If on occasion you are bringing in food to your child at lunch time please keep this in mind.
FOOD/PRODUCT ALLERGIES There are children in our school who are allergic to certain foods or products (fish, eggs, peanuts and other nuts and latex). Please keep this in mind when packing your childs lunch or purchasing school supplies. Please check ingredients before sending any food item to school. Also purchase latex free school supplies. This will help us keep our environment safer for these children.
We also have children sensitive to scent. Children are not permitted to bring hairsprays and other scented products to school. Please do not wear perfume or other scented products when coming to the school.
OUTDOOR RECESS/LUNCH TIME Whenever the weather is reasonable, all students will be going outside at recess and lunch. Please ensure that your child is dressed appropriately for the weather through out the school year. If your child is unable to go out due to illness please send a note to your childs teacher.
VISITORS TO THE BUILDING Parents and all visitors to the school are asked to report to the main office. Your child will then be paged to meet you in the office area. Do not go directly to the classroom areas. The prime consideration we have is for the safety of all children. The danger of having unauthorized individuals within the school cannot be overemphasized.
Parents waiting to pick up students at dismissal time are asked to wait in the Cafeteria. Please do not wait on stairways, in the classroom corridors, or at school entrances. These entrances need to be free in the event of a fire or another emergency. In the event of a fire drill or other emergency, visitors are asked to leave the school by the nearest exit.
During the school day, all exterior doors will be locked. Please use the doorbell at the main entrance of the school.
